Immanuel, God with Us
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
Matthew 1:23 NIV
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. God with us.
Isaiah 7:14
Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:
- I encourage you to read Luke 2 and Matthew 2 as we begin to prepare ourselves to celebrate Jesus’ birth.
- Consider what Jesus’ name, Immanuel, means.
- What does it mean to you that God is with you?
- Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years before Jesus was born exactly what would happen. A virgin would be with child—that was a total miracle. Isaiah also said the virgin would have a son and call Him Immanuel.
- What is the chance of a virgin getting pregnant? It’s impossible without God.
- God wanted people to know many years before, exactly what He would do, so that people would believe in Him. What do you think about all this?
- I’m so grateful that God came as Immanuel, God with Us. He is still with me—and you—today. I love talking to him throughout the day and night. It’s comforting knowing there is always someone to listen to me and hold me.
A Prayer for You:
Immanuel, thank You for Your impossible plan that You laid out hundreds of years before it happened. Thank You for performing miracles in how Jesus came to earth. What comfort I find in knowing You are always with me.
Jerry Bridges, Author of twelve books, including, Trusting God Even Though It Hurts and The Joy of Fearing God, said about 2031 Names of God: “The Bible uses many names for God, each of them designed to reflect one facet of His glorious character. In this series, Gaylyn Williams has done a remarkable job of identifying and explaining the various names God uses to describe Himself. Meditating on these names, one day at a time, will help us to know God more intimately. This series will prove useful in enriching one’s daily quiet time.”
Blessings on you today and in the coming days.
