God’s Name: Wonderful Counselor

Wonderful Counselor

Pele Yahats (Hebrew)

 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

  Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • Pele means a miracle, a wonder or a marvelous thing. The Hebrew root for Yahats means to advise, consult and guide. Think about these meanings. What does it mean to you that God sent us the Wonderful Counselor?
  • In what areas do you need the Wonderful Counselor today?
  • Read the verses, below to see more about God as our Counselor. What do they say to you?

John 14:16: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.”

John 14:26: “But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” See also John 15:26.

  • Isaiah refers to the Messiah, Jesus, as the Counselor, whereas John refers to the Holy Spirit as the Counselor. I’m grateful I have two Counselors.

A Prayer for You:

Wonderful Counselor, thank You for coming to earth to show me the truth and to guide me throughout my life. Help me to rely on You and Your wisdom more and less on my own understanding. I want to learn to go to You first when I need advice.

Chuck Asay, Syndicated Editorial Cartoonist, said about The Surprising Joy of Exploring God’s Heart:

It seems our Creator puts a lot of stock in names. I’m sure He knows my name but do I know His? This exceptional daily devotional reveals God’s character. What a relationship builder is this guide to all who want to draw closer to God. And when we draw closer to Him, “blessings” happen.

Blessings on you as you get to know God,
