Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he,SJ Journal front cover

I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you;

I will sustain you and I will rescue you.

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • Some of the definitions of sustain are support, provide for, maintain and encourage.
  • God is the One who holds us up and keeps us going. Look at the verses below to see how God sustains us.
  • Psalm 3:5: “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.”
  • Psalm 41:3: “The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.”
  • See also Nehemiah 9:21; Psalm 54:4; 55:22.
  • In what ways have you seen God sustain you?
  • In what ways do you need the Lord to sustain you?
  • When I was doing a single-parent family ministry, it was exhausting. I taught weekly classes, made meals for single parents, had a food bank, did one-on-one ministry, plus raised my own sons on my own. I became weary. During that time, the Lord sustained me. He held me up, encouraged me and provided for me.
  • Thank God that He will sustain you throughout your life—to your old age and gray hairs!

A Prayer for You:

Thank You, Lord, that You are the One who sustains me. You encourage me, support me and provide for me. Thank You that You made me, will carry me, sustain me and rescue me even to my old age. That is so comforting. Help me to remember this throughout all my days.

Blessings on you as you get to know God,

God’s Name: Him Who Makes Everything Complete

He has put all things under His feet and has appointed Him the universal and supreme Head of the church [a headship exercised throughout the church], which is His body, the fullness of Him Who fills all in all [for in that body lives the full measure of Him Who makes everything complete, and Who fills everything everywhere with Himself].

God’s Name: My Faithful God

Excerpted  from The Surprising Joy of Exploring God’s Heart: A Daily Adventure with 365 of His Names

Into your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God.

Psalm 31:5

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He quoted part of this verse in Luke 23:46: “Jesus called out with a loud voice, ‘Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.’”
  • The Hebrew word for faithful is emeth and means certainty, truth, trustworthiness, establishment, faithful, right, sure and true. Some versions translate this name as “The God of Truth.” El is the singular for Elohim.
  • Merriam-Webster* defines faithful as, “steadfast in affection or allegiance; firm in adherence to promises or in observance of duty; given with strong assurance; true to the facts, to a standard or to an original.” Think about these definitions. What does it mean to you that God is your faithful God?
  • I have seen God’s faithfulness in my life so many times. One example is in how He has provided for all of my needs, sometimes in a miraculous way. As a young single mom, I was so poor that I was turned down for the indigent health care. Why? Because I didn’t make enough money. That is a true story! However, even though many months I didn’t have enough to pay my bills, yet I always paid them—from my own checkbook. I can’t explain it, except for God’s faithfulness. He is faithful to you too.
  • Because He is faithful, we can depend on Him for anything and everything. Often we can’t depend on people to remain faithful to us, but we can stake our lives on the fact that God won’t ever change.

A Prayer for You:

Thank You, My Faithful God, for always being faithful to me. I praise You that You are trustworthy, truthful and dependable. Teach me to trust You more and rely on You for every area of my life.

Blessings on you as you get to know God,

The Beginning and the EndCover for 2031 Names of God

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

Revelation 22:13 NIV

Excerpted  from 2031 Names of God: Transform Your Life as You Get to Know God in New Ways

Happy New Year!

Meditate on this name. Ask the Lord to reveal what He wants you to see from it today. What does it mean to you that God is the beginning and the end? I’m so glad I can depend on Him.

As you are ending one year and getting ready for a new year, take some time to talk to the Lord about both. Is there anything that you want to change in the new year. God will help you, if you ask Him and trust Him. That is so much better than making a New Year’s Resolution.

Blessings on you as you get to know God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 (ESV)

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

·        Read the verses, below to see more about how mighty God is:

·        Jeremiah 32:18: “You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts” (ESV).

·        Luke 22:69: “But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God”  .

·        What do these verses say to you about the Lord?
