God’s Name: God of Heaven

El Shamayim (Hebrew)

Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever.

Psalm 136:26

I pray you have a blessed Thanksgiving.

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • Shamayim refers to Heaven and the sky. El is God.
  • The Bible has so much to say about Heaven. I found 454 references to Heaven. I encourage you to read Revelation 4 and 5 to learn more about what it will be like when we get there.
  • Philippians 3:20 says, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
  • 1 Peter 3:21-22 says, “Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.”
  • Think about Heaven. What does it mean to you today that your God is the God of Heaven?
  • Meditate on this name. Then thank Him and praise Him for what He shows you.
  • If He’s big enough to manage all of Heaven, don’t you think He’s big enough to handle your issues and problems?
  • When my son Timothy was four-years-old, we were driving to church one evening when the sun was shining through a little hole in the clouds. I said, “It looks like Jesus could come back to take us to Heaven.” Without missing a beat, Timothy said, “Yeah, to pick up a load of dead dudes.” His theology was great. His vocabulary was interesting!

A Prayer for You:

God of Heaven, I praise You that You are such a big God who is over all of Heaven and Earth. Thank You that You are there preparing a place for me. That reminds me that Your love endures forever. I’m blessed knowing I’ll always be with You in Heaven.

God’s Name: Hope of All the Ends of the Earth

and of the Farthest Seas

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds, God our Savior,

the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas.

Psalm 65:5 (NIV)

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • The Hebrew word for hope, mibtakh, means confidence, security, a refuge, hope, trust and sure.
  • How is God the Hope of All the Ends of the Earth and of the Farthest Seas? Think about that.
  • Why doesn’t this verse just say that God is ourhope?
  • How has God given you hope in the past?
  • In what areas do you need hope today?
  • Thank Him for being your hope and for giving you hope.
  • If you don’t yet have a personal relationship God, then you may not have much hope. If you’d like to learn more about how you can find more hope, go to page 369.
  • Notice the beginning of this verse. God answers us with awesome and righteous deeds. How have you seen Him do that?

A Prayer for You:

Thank You, Lord, that You are the Hope of All the Ends of the Earth and You are also my Hope. Thank You for the hope You bring me in every area of my life. I want to always find my Hope in You, rather than in people or things, because You are the only One I can completely depend on.

Blessings on you as you get to know God,

Here is what Amy Everette, Director of Marketplace Rock said about The Surprising Joy of Exploring God’s Heart:

“We can never get enough of God nor can we fully comprehend His character. However, Gaylyn’s fresh approach to learning and honoring the names of God is a powerful and practical tool for better knowing our Father in Heaven. The unique daily format provides teachings and practical applications that guide the reader into a deeper and higher relationship with the Father.  The reader will especially benefit from the daily prayers that encourage greater submission to the Father’s will as they develop a better understanding of His nature. This is a nightstand tool, a daily must read, and can be used year after year without exhausting your understanding of God.”

My Father's God

God’s Name: My Father’s God

The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

He is my God, and I will praise him,

my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

Exodus 15:2

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately:

  • The Hebrew for this name is Ab Elohim. Ab means father or ancestor. Elohim is the plural form of God.
  • If your parents or other ancestors were believers, what does it mean to you that God is your Father’s God? How does that affect you?
  • Growing up as a missionary kid I watched God provide for my family. Whenever my sisters or I asked my parents for anything expensive, their response was, “Let’s ask God.” It was incredible how God provided for us, including giving us a very nice house to live in rent-free when we came back from Guatemala with no money. I have a great view of God because of my parents.
  • What if you don’t know anyone in your family who are or were believers? How can you relate to this name? Ask the Lord to show you. Is it possible you have ancestors in the past who you didn’t know who knew God?
  • Meditate on this name today. Ask the Lord what He wants you to see from it.

A Prayer for You:

God, I want to praise You and exalt You because You are such a great God. You deserve praise and adoration, whether or not my parents are or were believers. I want future generations to be able to look back to me and praise You, because of my relationship with You.

Think about this name today as you are preparing to celebrate Easter. Ask the Lord to reveal what He wants you to see from it today.

Yeshua the Messiah

From 2031 Names of God: Change Your Life! Get to Know God in Fresh New Ways

Praised be Adonai, Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, who in the Messiah has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in heaven. In the Messiah he chose us in love before the creation of the universe to be holy and without defect in his presence. He determined in advance that through Yeshua the Messiah we would be his sons — in keeping with his pleasure and purpose — so that we would bring him praise commensurate with the glory of the grace he gave us through the Beloved One.
